From the Kalahari Sands to the Whale Shark Channel

Twenty-two nights that follow the water. Botswana opens on dry ground at Mokete Camp, moves through the Delta as the floodplain fills, then departs the mainland for a Madagascar island with lemurs in the canopy and whale sharks in the channel.

Overview

From the Kalahari Sands to the Whale Shark Channel

Mokete's dry plains show Botswana's desert interior before the Delta enters the picture. Chitabe Lediba sits in the transition zone, mopane and floodplain trading places as the Delta breathes. Vumbura Plains pushes deeper into the water, where life concentrates. Then the safari alights on Nosy Komba off Madagascar's northwest coast, forest above and reef below. Bush planes and helicopters connect the camps. Full board throughout Botswana. Johannesburg is your gateway.

Wilderness Mokete: The Only Camp in 200 Square Miles
Mababe, Botswana

Nine tents alone on the dry Mababe grassland. This is Botswana on solid ground. Lion prides run the plains, buffalo herds stretch seemingly to the horizon, and the roof above your bed slides back for stars. Safari time here is set by the animals, not the clock. Full days out, bush lunch packed.

Chitabe Lediba: Where the Delta Breathes

Chitabe Lediba: Where the Delta Breathes
Okavango Delta, Botswana

The transition zone. Mopane forest gives way to seasonal floodplain, and lion and wild dog move between islands of trees as the Delta breathes in and out with the seasons. Five tents on raised decks overlook the lediba, a lagoon that pulls game all day. A camp small enough that the chefs cook to your table's own tastes.

Vumbura Plains: Land and Water, In Flow State

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Deeper into the seasonal water now. Vumbura's channels rise and fall through the year, and life concentrates exactly where land and water meet, which is why the game viewing here runs so rich. Mornings by open 4x4, afternoons by mokoro canoe, sable out on the floodplain. The Luxury Family Tent links two en-suite tents on one private deck.

Tsara Komba: Forest Above, Reef Below

Tsara Komba: Forest Above, Reef Below
Nosy Komba, Madagascar

Seven nights on the forested slopes of Nosy Komba. Black lemurs move through the canopy above trails scented with wild vanilla. A day that starts in the jungle can end underwater, looking for whale sharks in the channel. Eight thatched bungalows sit in hillside gardens with sea breeze and lantern light.
