Met at the gate, walked through customs, then a short walk to the hotel door. Africa's busiest airport is the seam nearly every southern route runs through. Sleep, breakfast, and a flight north before the day gets hot.
Begin your dream
Eleven days for two through Zimbabwe's oldest hills, its biggest elephant country, and the river at the end of both.
Two billion years of granite, balanced into shapes that read as deliberate. The San painted these boulders, and white rhino still move across the hills at dawn — tracked on foot, unfenced. Amalinda is built into the rock itself. Then Hwange, elephant herds through the mopane, one night outside on a star bed. It ends on the Zambezi, hippos surfacing at dusk and the falls carrying across the water before sunrise.

Met at the gate, walked through customs, then a short walk to the hotel door. Africa's busiest airport is the seam nearly every southern route runs through. Sleep, breakfast, and a flight north before the day gets hot.

Two billion years of granite, stacked and balanced across the Matopos, Zimbabwe's oldest park. Amalinda is built into an ancient bushman shelter, stone walls and candlelight, an infinity pool cut into the boulders. Track white rhino on foot across unfenced hills. Walk up to San paintings older than most written history. Ride the back roads through the villages below.
See the Outpost
Seven tented suites on stilts above the Dete Vlei, with a waterhole for a front yard and the Presidential elephant herd walking through it. Game drives across a 15,000-acre private concession, guided walks, hide sits, the Painted Dog Conservation Centre. One night is spent outside on a star bed. The honeymoon suites add a clawfoot tub under open sky, which is the kind of thing that sounds excessive until you are in it.

The first private lodge inside Zambezi National Park, set on the riverbank upstream of the falls. Hippos surface off the deck at dusk. Tented suites face the water, each with a plunge pool. Walk the falls at first light before the crowds arrive, drift the river at sundown, fly the gorge if you want the whole shape of it at once.

“Land stays wild when the people living beside it are better off with the wildlife than without it.”
