Four owner-run camps in four distinct ecosystems, from the rhino-sanctuary highlands of Borana to elephant country in the Mathews Range, to the Mara’s endless savannas, and Campi Ya Kanzi’s Maasai-owned wilderness.

The Dyer family has been here for generations and have run the lodge since the early ‘90s. Their conservancy places a special emphasis on rhino conservation. Stay in private cottages, with game drives, horse rides, and behind-the-scenes conservation work baked into every day.
See the Outpost
The Mathews Range is as remote as safari Kenya gets. Sarara, with both tents and a house, is owned by the local Samburu community. Highlights include a private visit to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, Africa’s first community-owned elephant orphanage.

Calvin Cottar’s great-grandfather pioneered safaris here in 1919. The camp sits in a private conservancy adjoining the Mara — no minibuses, no crowds, just the family’s fourth generation doing what they’ve always done: running one of the most distinctive and, it must be said, glamorous, camps in East Africa.

Luca Belpietro built this lodge of tented cottages with local Maasai owners, including UN Champion of the Earth Samson Parashina, a leader in regenerative tourism. It covers 300,000 acres, with Kilimanjaro on the horizon. Flights from Nairobi are included for stays of three nights or more. That’s to make sure guests stay long enough to really feel the magic.

A day room between the bush and the airport. Manzili is quiet, gracious, unhurried — the right place to sit with a glass of wine and replay two weeks that changed how you see the world.

“Land stays wild when the people living beside it are better off with the wildlife than without it.”
